Elaine Griffin is an Americana/Alt Country singer/songwriter based in Westport, Co. Mayo. Griffin’s writing style is characterized by an intimate exploration of human experience and relationship, steeped in emotional, exposing and sometimes stark lyrics that span a wistful poignancy as well as humorous, tongue-in-cheek observations. Coupled with her distinctive smoky voice, weaving between powerful conviction and vulnerable honesty, Griffin takes her audience straight to the heart of the story in the song.
Known locally over the years for her collaborations with singer/songwriter Joanne Keegan, as well as her more recent work with Gert Nungesser in Nungesser & Griffin, she is fondly remembered as the lead singer in the popular Westport based band Mrs. Doyle’s quartet from the mid-1990’s.
Apart from performing and recording her own work she has a keen interest in the craft of songwriting and exploring opportunities for having other singers cover her original material. Griffin is a multi-instrumentalist playing both guitar and piano. She is currently recording her debut solo album which is due for release summer 2016, featuring an impressive list of guest musicians including Sean Regan on fiddle, David Murphy on pedal steel guitar, Joe Halloran on Drums and Gert Nungesser on lapsteel, dobro and guitar.
